Walk Humbly

If ever I have the riches of kings, let me remember the day I had none. Give.
If ever I gain wisdom beyond my years and the favor of many, let me thankful for the wise leaders who trained me and to remember my intellect is Yours. Be humble.
If ever I land the job of my dreams, let my decisions honor You and to remember the humble beginnings of cleaning up after others. Serve.
If ever I have my painting room with the beautiful landscape to view, let me remember you are the creative Designer. Display Your beauty.
If I ever I see the world at large, let me remember you are the sovereign and loving Ruler of all. Be humbled by Your grandness yet so very thankful that You love me so intimately.
If ever I am blessed with a lifelong companion, let me treasure him as an undeserved gift from You and remember the nights spent alone in waiting. Serve and love him all my days.
If ever I have little tots running around the house, let me remember they are a blessing and to love and cherish them everyday. Train them to know the Lord.

Let me always be thankful for the health I have that allows me to be active. If ever I lose it, let me be grateful for the days I had and seeking how to glorify You still.
Let me always be thankful for the shelter I have each night, a roof over my head, a warm house to lounge, a comfy bed to rest.
Let me always be thankful for my family and remember they are a blessing to me. They could be gone at any moment. Cherish them.
Let me always be thankful for the amazing friends I have and let me remember the friendless days when I couldn't get out of bed. Be grateful.
Let me always be thankful for clothes on my back. And more than just for necessity and warmth, a privilege to have a style all my own. Be unique.
Let me always be thankful for the extended amounts of time I have in this season of life that allow me to do things I enjoy. Be at peace and never be bitter with the things I don't have.

Thank you my Lord. My Love. My Light. Let me always be thankful for what I have, hopeful for the things to come, and seeking to glorify You at every single step.

A Place to Call Home: Reflections on Loneliness

...but as servants of God...unknown yet well known 2 Corinthians 6:4-10 excerpt I often wonder what life must have been like for the apostle Paul. He endured countless obstacles and consistent persecution but I find that as I read about his life he counted the cost and had an unexplainable joy deep in the fabric of his heart and nothing could take that away. How is that he could live in such miserable physical conditions and battle loneliness, not just being alone but being misunderstood and unknown by men. The only answer is Jesus. Jesus was his example because that is the life Jesus lived on earth and called His followers to.  Recently, I've found myself in a place of feeling unknown to those around me. I've been many places overseas and all around America. I've lived in third world nations and seen extreme poverty and I've lived in America with extreme material riches. Why is that when I lived in places of material poverty, I found more joy and a closeness ...

Pruned for a Purpose

If you don't regularly journal, I would highly recommend it.  Granted, I process things best by getting them on paper but it's always great to look back and see where you've come from. I feel that I'm at a crossroads in my life.  I'm excited for my future, wherever God might take me and I'm finally able to see the big picture of the last few years. This crazy adventure began in May 2009 in a dirty San Diego hostel talking to a Swiss man about theology and the meaning of life.  That conversation wrecked me.  I realized at that point I had been running on self-righteousness and empty words.  I was confused and wondering who God was and my relation to Him and what the heck this life was about.  I feared telling others that I had questions and doubts.  Thank God for good friends.  Around this time, I talked with my friend Frick. Frick had been praying for me and felt God saying a few things to me.  I wrote down his exact words. "It will ge...

Abide in Me

I'm in a season where I've lived a little life but still have a long journey ahead. I see people in my life farther down the road that I aspire to be like. I have questions like how have you stayed faithful to the call on your life for 40 years? How do you continue to fight for your spouse day after day, especially on days when you don't feel like it? How do you trust God when things are out of your control and the situation looks hopeless? It could seem like the answers to these questions should be quite complex but what I have been learning is that the answer is simple: abide in Jesus. What does abide mean?  : to endure without yield, to remain stable, fixed, to continue in a place and pay the price, to remain steadfast and faithful So how does one abide day after day? It's easy on days when the spotlight is on you, when the breakthrough comes, and when circumstances seem to go your way. But to abide means to remain steadfast through each and every day. On ...
